Dr Fabian Boesl

Fabian is a postdoctoral research fellow at the School of Science working on the peatlands in the Walpole Wilderness Area.

Background

Fabian is specialized in sedimentology, geochemistry, and remote sensing. He is particularly interested in how landscapes and ecosystems respond to a changing climate and anthropogenic impact. His PhD at the University of Wollongong was on leaf wax biomarkers and how they end up in soil and sediment records. Fabian has worked in a wide range of sites and settings in Australasia with a focus on coasts, caves, and wetland ecosystems.

Research Areas and Interests

  • Lacustrine and organic sediment records
  • n-Alkanes and carbon isotopes in modern and past ecosystems
  • How the first people came into Sahul (continental mass of Australia and New Guinea)
  • Using drone and satellite data in applied science
