Research Areas and Interests

Research interests:

  • Marine biogeochemistry
  • Natural radionuclides
  • Planktonic community structures productivity and particle fluxes in the open ocean

Use of radioactive isotopes as tracers of particles in the ocean. Research Areas:

  • Southern Ocean: Influence of fronts and eddies in the planktonic communities and the elemental cycling of nutrients and trace metals
  • Arctic Ocean: Impact of the declining of sea-ice in the biogeochemical cycles and water masses circulation
  • Eastern Tropical North Pacific and Gulf of California: Role of small phytoplankton groups related to carbon export and export efficiency in oligotrophic regions
  • Atlantic Ocean: Particle export distribution at an oceanic basin scale as part of the GEOTRACES program
  • Mediterranean Sea: Impact of spring phytoplankton blooms related to atmospheric CO2 uptake and sequestration.
