Dr Mitra Javanmard

Dr. Mitra Javanmard is a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at the ECU School of Nursing and Midwifery. She brings over 33 years of clinical midwifery experience and 12 years in academia to her teaching and research.

Background

Dr. Mitra Javanmard began her academic career in Australia in 2018 at the University of South Australia, following five years of teaching experience in Iran. She also brings 33 years of clinical midwifery practice across both Australia and Iran. This combination of clinical and academic expertise enables her to effectively integrate evidence-based research and national standards into her teaching, significantly enhancing its quality and relevance.

After completing her PhD in 2020, Dr. Javanmard joined the University of Adelaide, where she served as Program Director, Course Coordinator, Lecturer, and Researcher. In these roles, she consistently aligned her teaching practices with institutional goals, policies, and academic standards.

Research Areas and Interests

Dr. Javanmard is an experienced researcher in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches.

Her areas of interest include:

  • Internationally qualified midwives practising midwifery in Australia
  • Influence of self-compassion upon midwives and nurses’ mental health and well-being
  • Quality of life and associated factors among mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus
  • Support needs of same-sex parents around childbirth
  • Effectiveness of Lifecast BabiesTM and Lifecast AdultsTM plus lay actors on midwifery and nursing students’ empathy skills
  • Parents’ experiences of accessing healthcare for their children with Autism
  • Pregnancy experiences of First Nation women with chronic kidney disease
