Dr Oscar Vorobjovas-Pinta

Dr Oscar Vorobjovas-Pinta is a Senior Lecturer in Business Services at the School of Business and Law.

Biography

Oscar is a leading expert on LGBTQI+ communities in the context of tourism, events, leisure, and hospitality. His research interests are the sociology of tourism, regional events, tourist behaviour, Antarctic tourism, extending ethnographic and qualitative research methods into tourism research, and technology-enhanced tourism experiences. Oscar is the President of Australia and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies (ANZALS) and a Board Director of Visit Northern Tasmania.

Oscar obtained his PhD in Tourism from the University of Tasmania, a Bachelor of Science (European Studies) from the University of Southern Denmark and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Tourism and Hospitality Management) from Vilnius University of Applied Sciences. Before re-joining Edith Cowan University, Oscar was a Senior Lecturer in Tourism and Society at the University of Tasmania.

Oscar is also an award-winning academic with a strong focus on innovative teaching and learning, as well as research. In 2023, he received a Commendation for Significant Contribution to Hospitality, Tourism, and Events Research from the Council for Australian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE). In 2020, he was awarded the School of Business and Law (Edith Cowan University) Teaching and Learning Award for Impact on Learning in recognition of innovative teaching in blended modes and the use of technology to enhance online learning. Earlier, in 2015, Oscar was awarded a Teaching Merit Certificate from the University of Tasmania.

Oscar serves on the Editorial Board of Annals of Tourism Research Empirical Insights and is an Associate Editor of Event Management. He is also the President of the Australia and New Zealand Association for Leisure Studies (ANZALS), a Board Director of Visit Northern Tasmania, a member of the Council for Australasian Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE), and a member of the Tourism Research and Education Network (TRENd).
