Professor Pi-Shen Seet

Pi-Shen is the Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in the School of Business and Law.

Biography

Pi-Shen joined the School of Business and Law (SBL) in 2016. He is currently co-leading the ECU SBL Marketing, Innovation, Sport and Entrepreneurship (MISE) research cluster and sits on the school's Research and Research Training Committee. In 2018-2020, he was Deputy Director of the Centre for Work and Organisational Performance (CWOP). He was also SBL Director of Accreditation, a member of the SBL executive and a member of the ECU Innovation Steering Committee. Pi-Shen teaches in the ECU postgraduate business units of the Master of Marketing and Innovation and the MBA.

Pi-Shen has published widely in aspects of entrepreneurship, innovation and management in the Asia-Pacific in major peer-reviewed journals. He has led Australian Category 1, 2, 3 and 4 research grants plus international research funding.  He has also been successful in New Colombo Plan funding for international student exchanges / internships. His research has appeared in government inquiries and in the media (e.g. ABC News, SBS News, The Australian) and in industry publications (e.g. CPA Australia’s In The Black magazine).

He has also led university collaborations stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. In 2018, the ECU-Jugglr collaboration was selected by Universities Australia as one of 36 case studies its “Clever Collaborations” publication. He was also mentor to ‘Team iSafe’, which made it to the finals of The Big Idea Social Innovation competition.

Previously as Associate Professor at Flinders Business School, Flinders University, he was Program Director of the Bachelor of Business degree and also Research Higher Degrees and Honours coordinator.  He began his academic career in Australia as a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at University of Adelaide's Business School and taught MBA/MCommerce courses on Entrepreneurship, Organisation Behaviour and Leadership.

A PPE (Philosophy, Politics & Economics) graduate from Oxford University, he has been a WA Rhodes Scholarship Network Advisor. He completed his PhD at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. He has been a visiting scholar at the Nanyang Technopreneurship Centre, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Before academia, Pi-Shen served more than 13 years as an Army officer in the Singapore Armed Forces, he was lead Project Officer in the NTU Business Process Review and consulted on UK HEIF projects and is still active in his family's business.
