Associate Professor Deepa Bannigidadmath

Associate Professor Deepa is the Acting Associate Dean (Accounting and Finance) at the School of Business and Law.

Biography

Prior to joining Edith Cowan University, Deepa held an academic appointment at Deakin University and worked for over three years in the IT industry as a Programmer Analyst. She brings extensive experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate finance courses. Deepa enriches the student learning experience by integrating practical and experiential components into her teaching. This includes leveraging finance industry databases such as Bloomberg and Refinitiv Eikon, web-based stock market simulation tools, and real-world business case studies to bridge theory and practice in the classroom.

Deepa’s research interests include asset pricing, forecasting, financial markets, commodity markets, behavioural finance, applied financial econometrics, and corporate finance. She has published in leading international journals such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of International Money and Finance, Energy Economics, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, and Economic Modelling, among others. She has also secured multiple research grants, including two Category 3 grants, and received several awards in recognition of her contributions to teaching and research excellence.

She is the founding leader of the Finance and Investment Research Cluster and a founding member of the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Research Centre.

In addition to her academic and research achievements, Deepa has actively contributed to the development and implementation of school and university policies. She has served on a range of key committees, including the School’s Research and Research Training Committee, Scholarship and Research Grants Review Committee, Awards Sub-Committee, Workload Model Working Committee, and Learning Management System Consultative Committee. She has also led the management of the SMART Lab at ECU, served as Acting Course Coordinator, and regularly reviews submissions for ABDC A*/A-ranked journals, further contributing to the advancement of the finance discipline.
