Dr Armaghan Shafaei Darestani

Armaghan is a Research Fellow with the Centre of Integrative Metabolomics & Computational Biology (CIMCB) in the School of Science.

Current Teaching

  • SCC2211 Organic Chemistry
  • SCC3201 Analytical Chemistry

Background

Armaghan Shafaei received her PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Her PhD research focused on applying analytical chemistry to investigate bioactivity, safety and efficacy of medicinal plants for treating different diseases such as hypertension, cancer, obesity and uterine fibroid. During her Endeavour Postdoctoral Fellowship (awarded by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training) she linked the analytical research with metabolomic, nutrition and epidemiology expertise. In particular, she developed targeted assays using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) techniques for identification and quantification of different metabolites in human plasma and urine samples to support dietary intervention studies. More recently, as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), her research foci were on the development of a suite of targeted and non-targeted Metabolomics and Proteomics methods, applicable to a range of biological model systems (prokaryotic and eukaryotic) for deep phenotyping of model systems.
